A good night's sleep or a nice lovemaking? For the Dutch, this choice does not appear to be that difficult. Sleep appears to be very important for the vast majority (91.3%). So important that more than half (54.2%) prefer a good night's sleep over sex. And almost 1 in 3 Dutch people sometimes dreams about having sex with someone other than their partner (32%). Especially with an ex or colleague. This is apparent from a survey by Swiss Sense among 1,000 Dutch people in the context of World Sleep Day this Friday (03/13/2020).
Would you rather have a good night's sleep or have sex?
'I prefer a good night's sleep over sex'. This statement was presented to the respondents, among others. More than half (54.2%) agreed with this statement and therefore prefer a good night's sleep to having sex. This is especially true for women. About 61.4% of women agree with this statement compared to 47.1% of men. If we look at age, it is young people under the age of 34 who most often choose sleep over sex (60%). Half of those over 55 (50.9%) opt for a good night's sleep instead of having sex.
4 out of 10 men want to give up sleep for sex
Who would rather have sex than a good night's sleep? More than 4 in 10 men (43%) are willing to sleep a little less if it is counterbalanced by a steamy lovemaking. For women this is almost half:22.3%. Thus, women seem to be more attached to their sleep than men. More than half of the respondents (55.7%) do enjoy having sex, but not necessarily for a good night's sleep. On the other hand, about 1 in 10 (11.8%) say they really need a little frolic before going to sleep to be able to sleep well at night.
Sleep considered very important
Sleep is considered very important by the vast majority of respondents (91.3%). Women are slightly more likely to find sleep very important (93.6%) than men (88.9%). Yet 1 in 10 respondents (11.9%) indicate that they do not like to sleep. This is especially true for men (14.5%).
Almost a third sometimes dream about having sex with someone other than a partner
During sleep, the well-known fall dream is the most common. About 42.7% have dreamed of falling from, for example, a building or a staircase. We also often have the idea that we are being chased in our dream (38.2%). In third place comes a less unpleasant, but slightly immoral experience. Nearly 1 in 3 Dutch people (32%) say they have ever dreamed about having sex with someone who is not his or her partner. This dream is even number one for men (33.6%), and for women it is in third place (30.4%).
Dreams about that one colleague So quite a few Dutch people have dreamed about people in their environment with whom they are not together. Romantic dreams are most often about a colleague, ex-lover or celebrity. Men (22.2%) more often state that they have ever dreamed romantically about that one colleague than women (11.6%).
