Eating potassium-rich foods like sweet potatoes, avocados, spinach, beans, bananas — and even coffee — may be the key to lowering blood pressure, according to a new study. “Reduced sodium intake is a well-established way to lower blood pressure,” said the researcher, “but there is some evidence that increasing dietary potassium may have an equally important effect on blood pressure.” The study examined the link between blood pressure and dietary sodium, potassium and sodium-potassium ratio. Multiple studies have found that higher dietary potassium leads to lower blood pressure, regardless of sodium intake.
