As you know by now, I am always committed to making our habits more sustainable and looking for environmentally friendly solutions or products. Not at all costs, because I also like a certain form of luxury and convenience, but if there are products that make life a bit more environmentally friendly, I am quickly in a test round. Also this time with a toothpaste tablet from Choose.
There are a number of reasons why choosing a tablet to brush your teeth with is a smart choice. I will briefly list them below for you to discuss further:
The toothpaste in tablet form saves on plastic compared to the standard toothpaste tubes. You do not always have a tube with your waste, but purchase a bamboo refill jar once that you can refill with new tablets every time. If you eventually no longer (want to) use the refill jar, it is fully compostable.
I don't know if any of you have ever had a tube of toothpaste that leaked? For example because there was something heavy on it from the other luggage, or because the tube came under too much pressure because of the height? Well I do. Dramatic I can tell you! With the toothpaste tablet in a bamboo jar, you no longer have that problem.
Sure, a toothpaste tube is fun for kids. Squeeze it extra hard, for example. Laugh dude! Or turn the cap on with some toothpaste residue on the side. Do you understand what I mean? It will not be the first time that we have a completely smeared tube here. Admittedly, now that the children are older, it is less common than when they brushed their teeth as a toddler † But I've had to clean that tube and cap a few times in the past.
You actually only need the amount of a 'pea' for toothpaste from the tube. Yet it happens more than once that the entire toothbrush is provided with toothpaste. This is not only unnecessary, but also not sustainable and not good for you if you (or your child) also swallow it. A toothpaste tablet always has the right amount, you can't go wrong with this.

Good. It took me a few days to get used to it, but now I can say that I'm completely over it. I no longer need liquid toothpaste and the tube has become unnecessary for me.
It's very simple. You take a tablet from the bamboo jar and put it in your mouth. Just chew on it, wet your toothbrush while you're there and brush. You just brush the same as you always do.
The tablets feel a bit soft when you put them in your mouth and foam a little less than I am used to with toothpaste from the tube. That takes some getting used to because in one way or another we always have the idea that a lot of foam would be better. But that's not true. However, after a week of brushing my teeth with toothpaste in tablet form, I am used to it and it is completely fine.
Lotte and Luc are also completely over and are both fine with using these toothpaste tablets. In fact, Lotte clearly indicates that she actually prefers liquid toothpaste.
Frank isn't all that excited yet. Why? I think it's because he likes to have a lot of foam in his mouth when brushing. In addition, he is simply the type that does not like to change 😉 . It will take a while before it's completely over, but I'm not giving up yet, haha.
Even though I didn't know it yet, toothpaste tablets come from different brands. I have only experience with Choose toothpaste tablets that are developed by dentists using natural essential oils and fluoride to prevent tooth decay. Although this zero waste product contains fluoride against tooth decay (which opinions can differ about how good this is for you), it is also free of unnecessary chemicals. The tablets are also 100% vegan, not tested on animals and completely free of Microplastics. There the tooth fairy happy too, right? In addition, the tablets are now available in 35 dental practices in the Netherlands.
According to dentists, a naturally occurring mineral such as fluoride essential to strengthen tooth enamel and protect your teeth from cavities. For that reason, the natural toothpaste from Choose does contain fluoride, but no unnecessary chemicals. This way you prevent tooth decay, without making concessions to your health.
So not only the way the toothpaste is distributed (in tablet form) is sustainable, but the product itself too. In addition, the Choose tablets are vegan as indicated above. Healthy teeth are of course important, but if that is also possible without animal suffering, that is of course an advantage.
When you have finished your tablets, you can easily order a refill bag to refill your bamboo box. This means that there is less waste for each subsequent use. And if you want to have it completely handy, you can take out an automatic subscription where the refills are sent automatically. Not only very handy because you don't have to think about it anymore, but you also support underprivileged children in Kenya. For every subscription delivery, € 1.00 is donated to Dutch Dental Care to provide Kenyan children with dental care. Beautiful isn't it?!
For this article I was given the tablets from Choose to try, but of course this does not affect my opinion and the written content.
