If you don't sleep, do you rest?

If you don t sleep, do you rest?

Did your parents also say that you still rest if you don't sleep? Is there a grain of truth in this statement, or is it nonsense?

Research has shown that people who meditate often need less sleep. As a result, it seems that your body is indeed resting in its resting position. By lying in bed, you rest more than if you were active all night.

Sleep

However, resting is not nearly as effective as sleeping. In your sleep you are closed off from the outside world. Especially in your deep sleep, your body gets the opportunity to recover. A large part of the recovery takes place in the first hours of the night, so it is not a problem if you sleep a little less. Most of that physical recovery takes place during the deep phase of your sleep. You will not reach that stage with rest alone. Structural sleep deprivation cannot therefore be solved by resting.
