It's no secret that insomnia is widespread, affecting an estimated 40 million Americans. Many of them continue to look for new ways to overcome the condition and enjoy a good night's sleep again. The latest option is CBD oil, a chemical compound found in the cannabis plant. Many states have amended their laws to allow the legal sale of medicinal cannabis for health improvement.
For those struggling with the fatigue, irritability and lethargy that comes with insomnia, CBD oil is a new solution to a frustrating (and sometimes debilitating) condition. Although sleeping pills (both prescription and over-the-counter) are widely available, they can have negative side effects, from addiction to daytime sleepiness. For many people, the risks of sleeping pills outweigh the benefits and a non-narcotic option is an attractive alternative.
Medical cannabis for sleepCBD oil itself does not cause drowsiness. Her claim to fame is her ability to reduce anxiety and create a sense of calm. These are important factors that help prepare your body for sleep.
“The main cause of insomnia is often stress and not a disease or genetic disorder,” said Mike Robinson, founder of the Global Cannabinoid Research Center and in Santa Barbara, Calif. “For this reason, CBD is very useful for many people to combat insomnia by addressing the cause, in this case stress. Cannabidiol's ability to reduce anxiety is well known from many studies, which is why many find that they get a good night's sleep when they take it.”
On a biological level, CBD oil has a calming, pain-reducing and anti-inflammatory effect by interacting with many different brain receptors, proteins and chemicals. Those biological interactions change how neurotransmitters, hormones and other cells in the brain and body behave.

There are three main ways that CBD oil can be used to help you sleep better:
Some people don't mind the taste of the oil, which is described as grassy, earthy and nutty. If that's the case for you, put a few drops under your tongue to allow the compound to be absorbed through the capillaries in the mucous membranes before it reaches the bloodstream. The taste can be masked with a glass of water or juice, a teaspoon of olive oil or butter. Flavored CBD-infused edibles are also available.
If you are using CBD oil for pain relief, applying it in cream form may be your preference. There are even products like CBD soap and shampoo if you prefer a relaxing shower or bath before bed.
The oil can also be inhaled with a special vaporizer, but because the effects of the oil are noticeable faster with this method, this method is not recommended for new users.
For newbies, the oral method is a convenient and effective option. As Robinson notes, “When using CBD oil for sleep, it is best if smaller doses are taken twice.
One right after eating and the other about 45 minutes before bedtime. By dividing the CBD dose in half in this way, the user can generally get the most out of that one cannabinoid.
The cardinal rule for medication or the use of cannabis and cannabis extracts is simple:You can always add something to a dose, but you can never take anything away.”
