A cut through paper is often barely visible, but the pain can be excruciating. How come?
There are a few reasons for this:
- You usually get a paper cut in painful places:on your fingertips or between your fingers. Your fingertips are an important sense. Many nerves come together, making a paper cut on your fingertip extra painful.
- The cut looks more innocent than it is. It is usually not a nice straight cut, but a ragged cut.
- Paper can leave behind chemical particles that irritate the wound. Every time you move your hand, the cut is reopened. Painful!
