Is sugar as addictive as cigarettes and drugs? Actually, there is no real answer to this question for the following reasons…
Not sufficiently studied in humans
Most studies of sugar addiction have not been conducted in humans, but in rats. There is as yet no evidence that the results found in rats also apply to humans.
Love for sugar
The rats used for the study were also selected in advance for their love of sugar. After eating sugar, dopamine levels rose, but then they returned to normal, whereas the latter did not happen with cocaine.
In short, too little evidence
It does not mean that sugar addiction does not exist, but there is still little scientific evidence about sugar addiction in humans.
