Sitting a lot is bad for your health, but by standing or walking for two minutes an hour, you could already reduce the negative effects.
That's according to a study published in the Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology. Getting up and walking more often never hurts.
These are 7 tips to get started right away:
1. Visit a colleague in another department instead of emailing or calling.
2. Go outside for a walk during the (lunch) break.
3. Get up regularly to go to the toilet and make tea, or have a chat at the coffee machine.
4. Park your car a little further away so that you start and end your day with a short walk. If you travel by bus, you can get off one stop earlier.
5. Make a phone call while walking back and forth.
6. Do the occasional chore that doesn't need to be done in front of the computer:copying, watering the plants, cleaning up, sending the mail…
7. Prepare your lunch and snacks at work, standing in the kitchen.
