Which method gives you the best chance of success?
Research among 697 smokers shows that it is best to give up cigarettes at once. Quitting smoking remains difficult. This is also apparent from the statistics:a large proportion of those who stopped smoking had started again within six months.
Of those who quit cold turkey, one in five had still quit after six months. Of those who slowed down, one in seven had stopped after six months.
Notable: most smokers have a preference for reducing the number of cigarettes per day before quitting. Even those who would rather wean off had more success stopping in one go.
