If you want to be treated by a provider with whom your health insurer has no agreements, you will now be reimbursed for three quarters of the healthcare costs.
If a proposed legislative change goes through, you will now have to pay for the entire treatment yourself.
Proposal
In 2012, Minister Edith Schippers of Public Health proposed removing Article 13 from the Health Insurance Act. Your insurer then no longer has to reimburse healthcare costs if the treatment was performed by a provider with whom they have no agreements.
No more free choice
If the amendment is implemented, the free choice of doctors will be endangered. Some people are unwilling or unable to pay for the costs of a treatment themselves.
