The electronic patient record has been approved

Last night a special meeting was held on the electronic patient record. The terms and conditions have been agreed.

Yesterday, the National Association of General Practitioners approved the implementation of the electronic patient file. 16 regions voted in favour, 5 voted against, 2 regions did not vote.

Small adjustment
In 2011, the new version of the EPD was rejected by politicians, because the privacy of the patients would be violated. Since then, there has been a minor adjustment:you will only be included in the epd if you give explicit permission for this. Previously, you had to explicitly state that you not wanted to be included.

Voluntary GPs may also decide not to participate. In that case, the patient data cannot be viewed either. GPs who participate receive a contribution towards the costs.

Privacy
In order to meet the privacy concerns, only a limited group of physicians can view the electronic patient data for the time being. General practitioners and pharmacies can only view files from the region. An exception are the hospitals, which have access to all available files.

More about the voting round
The National General Practitioners Association held the vote yesterday. They have 11,500 members. The Association of Practitioners of General Practitioners disagrees. The association with 650 members wants to go to court.

Are you going to have your data included in the electronic patient file?
