Four million Dutch people use at least one course of antibiotics every year. This is apparent from new figures from the Pharmaceutical Key Figures Foundation.
Due to the high use of antibiotics, this is the most widely distributed drug , which is reimbursed by the basic package. In second place are the prescription NSAIDs with about 3 million different users per year, followed by antacids with approximately 2.8 million users.

Overregistration
Although the numbers are high, the number of users of the drug groups (antibiotics, NSAIDs, sex steroids, skin preparations with corticosteroids and ophthalmic agents) has remained almost constant † According to the Foundation for Pharmaceutical Key Figures (SFK).
The foundation does report that its user figures show some degree of overregistration know. Data contains no personal characteristics with which the SFK can recognize people who get their medicines from different pharmacies as the same patient. The SFK always sees these people as a unique person.
Researchers will now consider the issue of how to prevent this over-registration can become.
