It is not possible to get the Dutch to switch to a healthier lifestyle. For example, the number of smokers and overweight people has not decreased in recent years, but has actually increased.
This is apparent from research by the National Cancer Control Programme. In 2005, this organization already wanted to reduce the number of smokers in our country up to 20 percent. Unfortunately this did not work; last year still smoked 28 percent, 1 percent more than the year before.
The number of severely overweight people in our country is growing steadily. In 2008, 11 percent of the Dutch population was seriously overweight, compared to 12 percent last year. Also the number of cases of cancer rose last year. The risk of cancer and an unhealthy lifestyle are closely related.
Particularly among women, the number of patients with lung cancer . is increasing to. Lung cancer is in most cases caused by smoking and secondhand smoke.
