The average Dutch cholesterol level is too high, according to research by health website Testjegezondheid.nl – which takes blood tests from Dutch people.
On the cholesterol test 1400 Dutch took part. The male average was 0.36 above the desired level of 5.0 at an average age of 44 years. The women came out slightly better in the test with 5.23 at an average age of 43 years.
Within Europe the average cholesterol level is rising since 2006. In the 25 countries of the European Union surveyed, 1.9 million die each year as a result of heart disease.
Too high a cholesterol level can be caused by an unhealthy lifestyle and can lead to cardiovascular disease.
