The pill is getting a competitor in the form of… a cream!
That's right, a cream – called Nestorone Estradal – as contraception. According to the brains behind the cream, women only need a little bit of cream . every day rub on the arms, legs, shoulders and abdomen to avoid getting pregnant.
The pill versus the cream
The drug appears to be just as effective as the pill, but with fewer side effects † For example, the women who tried the cream did not suffer from acne, moodiness, headaches or weight gain † side effects that 40 percent of pill users do experience.
How is that possible? Like the pill, the cream contains a combination of the hormones estrogen and progesterone † But the type of progesterone is different from the one in the pill. The cream contains the hormone nestorone. And it is precisely this type that causes fewer side effects.
The subjects also indicated that they forgot to apply the cream much less quickly than to take the pill. This would make it easier to become part of their beauty regime. The cream works exactly the same as the pill and you have a week off once a month in.
Pregnant?
For women who are breastfeeding, the cream has an even better advantage over the pill. The hormones do not go into breast milk sitting, which does happen with the pill and can be dangerous for the baby.
