Lowering high blood pressure, certainly not a piece of cake , but doctors at UMC Utrecht think they have found the solution.
About one in five adults in the Netherlands has elevated blood pressure † So a large number. There are all kinds of medicines to get your blood pressure under control, but for some people this medication does not work well † Dangerous, because high blood pressure means a higher risk of a heart attack, loss of kidney functions and a stroke.
New technology
Doctors of the UMC Utrecht have studied the problem and are now coming up with a new technique to lower extremely high blood pressure † This technique has been developed and researched abroad. According to the specialists, a big step has been made for people for whom medicines against high blood pressure do not work.
The new treatment , a catheter technique, is used in patients who have an upper pressure of more than 160 mmHg despite the use of at least three types of drugs. The technique has already been tried out abroad and seems to work well. Now we have to wait for the first results in the Netherlands.
