Why are some people bitten by mosquitoes a lot and others not? Scottish scientists think they have found the answer.
According to the scientists, led by lead researcher Jenny Mordue, mosquitoes are mainly targeting tall and fat men and women † This is because tall and fat people are a more obvious target and because large bodies more heat and moisture produce, which mosquitoes are attracted to.
For their research they studied three hundred Scots and their experiences with mosquitoes and mosquito bites † They also discovered that the predisposition to be stung is often hereditary † Women often reacted more violently to insect bites than men.
The study results will be published next year in The British Medical Council's Public Health Journal †
