Due to the persistently high temperatures, the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) has initiated the National Heat Plan. This only happens on at least four days in a row with temperatures of 27 degrees or more.
Because of the extra risks of the heat the plan – which has been in existence since 2007 – is being implemented. High temperatures put a strain on the heart and blood vessels. Older people especially suffer from this. The National Heat Plan This means that extra attention is given and requested to these risks.
Advice
RIVM advises to drink extra water , avoid exertion and stay out of the heat as much as possible. The elderly have to be extra careful:they often have the idea that they drink enough, while that is not the case, according to the RIVM.
If we are to believe the weather forecasts, it will remain warm in the coming week. At the weekend it will even become tropically warm in many places with more than 30°C † Informal carers, care homes and family members are asked to keep an eye on things hold.
