One of New York's most famous neighborhoods recently welcomed a rather peculiar robot. He walks the streets of Times Square to provide citizens with more information about the Chinese coronavirus.
Experts have known for several weeks that theCovid-19 (formerly 2019-nCoV) is transmissible from human to human and the incubation period is usually 2 to 10 days. As for the mode of transmission, it can be postillions from an infected person but also contact with contaminated surfaces or objects. The precautions to be taken are generally to wash (or disinfect) your hands very regularly and to touch the mucous membranes (or a wound) as little as possible. In the most affected areas, it is even advisable to wear a protective mask.
Is the population well enough informed? The media seem to be doing their job of reporting on situations and progress scientists. As for governments, they are taking action and trying to make sure that citizens know how to deal with this coronavirus "story".
According to an article published by Reuters on February 11, 2020, a robot has recently been present in the streets of Times Square, New York (United States). His goal ? Walk around and inform as many passers-by as possible on the coronavirus. Called Promobot, the machine measures 1.5 meters and is equipped with a touch screen on its chest.
Some curious people stayed to observe the robot, had a conversation with him and even answered a questionnaire on the coronavirus. In addition, the machine embeds special software to detect symptoms related to this type of virus. However, the machine does not automatically detect the disease but considers with intelligence the answers given by the volunteers before deciding.
According to the creators of the Promobot, it is about making citizens better understand the details related to the coronavirus. The objective is to avoid any fear of the phenomenon through a better understanding of it. Recall that the latest report to date reports 65,000 confirmed cases for more than 1,300 deaths . While most cases are seen in China, around 400 are outside the country. However, the United States is not among the most affected countries.
