That irritating itching that you can have from a mosquito bite, there is something to do about it. We previously wrote about excellent tips against mosquitoes, such as a natural mosquito spray that keeps your home as mosquito-free as possible. But it is almost never possible to do without mosquitoes unfortunately. So what do you do against the itching if you do have a mosquito bite? And preferably remedies that you can also use with your child or baby against the itching. Time for research!

First of all, we would like to point out that a mosquito bite is always caused by the female mosquito. She is the one who feels the need to sting, because she uses the blood for the growth of her eggs. Yagh.
After the mosquito bite, the skin at the place where it was stung often becomes a bit redder, a bump develops and you often get enormous itching. The more you scratch… the greater the itch. Do you recognize that? Do you have a mosquito bite allergy? Then the symptoms are often even worse.
There are quite a few products that claim to relieve the itch from a mosquito bite. But you probably don't always have something to protect against a mosquito bite. Fortunately, there are also other ways to ease the itching of a mosquito bite. In any case, you should NOT scratch, this actually makes the itching of that bite worse.
There are several natural remedies that help with a mosquito bite. Remedies that you may already have at home. If you get stung, you can at least try one of these products to reduce the itching.
Ammonia with water. Sounds a bit akward, but in the past there were even buckets with ammonia and water on the beach against the jellyfish stings. However, it also appears to work against mosquito bites. I would not use this myself on my child or baby, but rather one of the other solutions against the itching of a mosquito bite.
Natural vinegar is also possible by the way
To stay in the acids… a slice of lemon on the mosquito bite also appears to relieve the itching
Sometimes I put a cross in it with my fingernail. However, I think this only helps temporarily. The pain of scratching briefly drowns out the itching of the mosquito bite.
Put an ice cube (or a few) in a tea towel and keep it on the mosquito bite.
The plantain turns out to be a versatile plant. The juice of the leaves of the narrow plantain can be used for a mosquito bite. You break the leaf and then smear the juice on the mosquito's bite. One advantage… if you've already scratched the mosquito's hump… this juice doesn't sting, but has regenerative power.
Basil also appears to have a similar effect. Squeeze the leaf above the mosquito bite and rub the juice (slightly oily) over the mosquito bite.
Make the area of the mosquito bite a little wet and then scrub with some salt.
Lavender oil and tea tree oil work against the mosquitoes, but if it does get to the point that you have been stung by a mosquito, this mixture also soothes the itching. It is a pity that the tea tree oil causes a somewhat unpleasant smell.
Yes, how do you do that then? No idea exactly, but you can, for example, heat a teaspoon until it gets so hot that you can just have it on your skin. The heat should reduce or eliminate the itchiness from the mosquito bite. The poison would be broken down. Be careful with burning!
If you are itchy, you should rub the bump with a banana peel. Not so handy when you get out of bed sleepy, and you first have to eat a banana… I'll stick to the toothpaste anyway 😉 .
Do you want to know why a mosquito bites you and where exactly that itching comes from? Then read this article.
Not completely natural, but practical. You crush an apirin (for example, flatten it with a teaspoon). Add a little water to make a paste. You put this on the mosquito bite.
Toothpaste has a similar effect. Just make sure to use peppermint toothpaste.
We used to have plenty of this in the house to use with a cold, but it also works against the itching of a mosquito bite. Must be the peppermint 😉 .
Dot product can be found at any drugstore.
<3 You can find Prikweg online here.
Put some tiger balm on the mosquito bite. We received this tip from a reader who was confronted with a load of mosquitoes in Thailand. Appears to work excellently!
Another reader tips us about menthol gel. She buys the menthol gel against itching from a mosquito bite at Kruidvat.
If you have an allergic reaction to the mosquito bite, it may just be that the symptoms of redness and itching are a lot worse. Fortunately, this does not happen very often in people, but do you think it bothers you? Then go and see your doctor just to be sure.
