It's great to be able to put on slippers instead of warm sneakers. But are slippers actually bad for your feet?
Slippers bad for your feet
Most slippers are less good for your feet than regular shoes. How come?
- Your toes will often automatically curve a little, to have more grip on your slippers. This happens unconsciously, but it does make the muscles in your shins work harder.
- Many slippers do not have a footbed. Even if you don't have flat feet, it can cause you to walk in a bit, especially if you're walking in flip flops for a longer period of time.
- Because your instep and heel don't get support, your feet can slip off the slippers. To prevent this, different muscles have to work harder.

- Don't wear slippers every day, but regularly wear firmer shoes.
- Buy slippers with a footbed.
- If you are going for a long walk, wear shoes that give more support to your feet.
