Does it make sense to count sheep, or are there more effective methods for falling asleep?
Why count sheep?
The origin of sheep counting can be traced back to the time of shepherds with flocks of sheep. For them it was necessary to count sheep. In addition, it could just happen that a shepherd counted himself to sleep while counting sheep. Another theory:the shepherds couldn't sleep because they were worried about their flock, so sheep had to be counted before sleeping.
Not effective
We have to disappoint you:a number of studies show that counting sheep doesn't work. It can even have the opposite effect. Do you fall asleep by counting sheep? Then don't give up.
What should you do then?
It is better to dream away to a relaxing location, such as a beautiful beach or a waterfall. Not only will you fall asleep faster, it would also help you sleep more peacefully. Are you tossing and turning for more than thirty minutes? Then it's best to get out of bed.
Do you ever count sheep?
