With the SkinVision app you can take pictures of suspicious moles, the app then analyzes the skin using an algorithm and then gives advice.
Advice
SkinVision can advise you whether or not to go to the doctor, or to continue to monitor the spot on your skin by taking pictures again later.
How accurate is SkinVision?
The dermatology department of the Catharina Hospital in Eindhoven is researching the SkinVision app. The research shows that the app can identify skin cancer with a high degree of certainty in 80 percent and with a high probability in 95 percent. "Those are numbers that approach the eye of a dermatologist," said Dr. Monique Thissen, dermatologist at the Catharine Hospital.
Special development
An app that detects skin cancer, that's quite a bit. Some people may be wary of it, but it is important that skin cancer is detected at an early stage, so that the chance of a cure is greater. New developments that could help with this, such as SkinVision, should be given a chance and thoroughly researched.
SkinVision can be downloaded via iTunes and from today also via Google Play.
