Europeans are getting fatter, but for the Netherlands it is predicted that the number of overweight people will fall by a few percentage points.
More overweight
By 2030, more people will be obese in Europe. The World Health Organization (WHO) warns of an 'overweight epidemic'. The WHO looked at the BMI of different countries for this.
The Netherlands will be the exception Ireland, Spain, Greece, Sweden, Austria and the Czech Republic will have the fastest growing BMIs. The WHO predicted something different for the Netherlands:in 2010, 54 percent of men were overweight, according to the report, this would be less than half by 2030. The percentage of obese men decreases from 10 to 8 percent. The percentage of obese women would fall from 13 to 9 percent.
That does not mean that you can sit still
WHO advises government to do more to promote healthy eating and prevent marketing of unhealthy food.
