Artists are just people, they too have their insecurities and fears. Dutch artists even suffer from anxiety and depression more often than people in other professions. Caberetier Marjolijn van Kooten wants to break through a taboo with her book Schijtluis.

Policy for performing artists In 2008, Esther van Fenema opened a special outpatient clinic for performing artists with psychological complaints in the Leiden University Medical Center. 'The fears in this profession can be so high that artists think they are going crazy or dying. The causes are diverse. Stage fright is a symptom of an underlying problem. First, it must be investigated which psychiatric disorder is at the root of it.'

Anyone can be affected by fear
1 in 5 Dutch people suffer from anxiety. Yet the subject is often kept silent. Marjolijn shows with her book that you can also become happy with an anxiety disorder.
