Ignorance about psychosis sensitivity

Ignorance about psychosis sensitivity

Every year about 3,000 people are affected by psychosis for the first time. People who have had a psychosis then run into a lot of prejudice and ignorance. That has to change.

What is psychosis?
A psychosis is a mixture of five different symptoms. One has feelings of mistrust, the other hears voices, suffers from mood swings or has a reduced planning and learning ability. In a psychosis, sounds, images, unfounded fears or suspicions can arise, which only you hear, see and feel. An intense experience that can make you lose your balance.

Support is important
After having a psychosis, it can be difficult to deal with negative reactions and prejudices. Social support is important. In order to achieve that, more awareness needs to be raised about psychosis sensitivity.

Removing prejudice
This week the Doe Eens Goed Gek campaign started. The campaign aims to dispel ignorance about psychosis and counter the prejudices, which are often negative.
