Do vegetarians get too little protein, or is that a myth about being a vegetarian?
It's a fable
Meat and fish are indeed rich in proteins, but you can also get those proteins from other products:your body needs about 46 grams of protein per day, and with a cup of chickpeas you are already at a third.
Enough sources for protein
Other good sources include beans, tofu, eggs, milk, and yogurt. For the vegans (who eat no animal products at all), there are almond milk and rice milk – two products that are often fortified with iron and calcium.
Enough substitutes In fact, almost all nutrients in meat and fish can be easily replaced. If you ensure that you eat whole grains, brown rice, lots of vegetables, legumes, fruit, and nuts, you will get enough nutrients as a vegetarian.
