Honey is a much safer and healthier antitussive than most medicinal syrups. American scientists have shown this in a clinical study.
The research team at the University of Pennsylvania, led by Professor Ian Paul, conducted a study on 105 children with colds who could not sleep because of the cough. The patients were divided into three groups. The first group was given a spoonful of organic liquid honey . before going to bed † The second took a spoonful of medicinal cough syrup in and the third group got nothing †
The next morning it turned out that the children using the liquid honey had taken the best night's sleep had had.
Why is honey so good? Liquid honey resembles cough syrup, but it is also very rich in antioxidants and substances that kill microbes naturally. It is not the case that disproportionate amounts of honey were used during the study.
