The difference in life expectancy between men and women has narrowed since 1980. This is evident from figures from Statistics Netherlands (CBS).
Since 1980, the difference in life expectancy decreased between the sexes. Men make a gain of 5.8 years from 1980, while women live an average of 3.1 years older. For the time being, the female gender scores higher. Girls born in 2008, live on average 82.3 years , men live four years (78.3) shorter.
In the European life expectancy ranking, Dutch boys born in the period 1996 to 2006 have gained three years of life † Thanks to this increase, they moved from fifth to fourth place in the ranking. The life expectancy of Dutch girls only increased by 1.5 years.
