Now I have managed to get rid of a large number of toxic products in my daily life...
Such as cleaning products, shower gels, shampoos and detergents...
Fragrances were therefore the next step on my list.
Yet, in the past, perfume was made from the distillation of flowers without chemicals or added ingredients.
This is always the case for essential oils.
It was authentic, true and natural perfume.
Today the composition of perfumes is far from being natural. Watch:
What do commercial perfumes contain?
According to this article from the American site Scientific American , fragrances contain products derived from petroleum or natural gas.
Many other dangerous synthetic chemicals are also found there.
Take for example one of my old favorite perfumes - "J'Adore" by Christian Dior.
EWG rates it 7 out of 10 for toxicity,
Risks of cancer are moderate and risks of endocrine disruption are high.
Remember that this is what causes breast cancer, thyroid cancer or the imbalance of hormones. Yuck, that's really not great!
And it's the same for most commercial perfumes.
They all contain dozens of chemicals one more secret than the other.
Indeed, they are not even on the labels.
I also learned that cheap perfumes are also harmful.
Some of the chemicals used circulate in fatty tissue and breast milk... Not terrible for babies!
For me, the scariest thing is that companies don are not required to disclose all ingredients in their perfumes.
Why this secrecy? To protect their trade secrets!
Thus, consumers cannot know exactly what they are putting on their skin...
So, let's get to the fun part!
I am of course thinking of the recipe for making your homemade perfume !
Because it's still great to create your own perfume, isn't it?
We will use essential oils organic...
Just like the natural recipe for natural air freshener for the house you loved on our site.
- pure vodka at 50°. You can also use jojoba oil instead
- essential oils (preferably organic)
- a glass spray bottle (essential oils attack plastic)
- distilled water
- a dropper with pipette
- a notebook to write down your compositions (percentages, number of drops, etc.). Useful to renew or modify one of your creations.
Note: choose vodka at 50° preferably because it completely dissolves essential oils. If you only find 40° vodka, that's okay.
Simply shake the perfume bottle well before each use to mix the ingredients. If you are using jojoba oil, you will also have to shake the bottle before each use.
It's really according to taste of each person.
In addition, depending on how your skin reacts, the same oil may smell differently from one person to another.
You may need to experiment with various blends to find the one you like the most.
To make your perfume correctly, you need 3 different notes :the top note, the heart note and the base note.
- Essential oils "base notes " fix and prolong the duration of other aromas. They ensure that the perfume remains on the skin.
- Essential oils "heart notes " determine the dominant character of the perfume. They belong, according to your desires, to the family of floral, spicy or woody aromas.
- Essential oils "top notes " are the ones that give the first impression when you open the bottle.
A perfume can have many essential oils.
To begin, start by composing a simpler fragrance by combining only 3 essential oils.
Count 24 drops for 15 ml of vodka (about 1 tablespoon).
1. Add 15 ml of vodka to the bottle.
2. Add 8 drops of a base note essential oil.
3. Add 8 drops of a heart note essential oil.
4. Add 8 drops of a top note essential oil.
5. Leave your perfume to sit in the refrigerator for a few days to fix the odours.

Here are 3 ideas of associations for harmonious perfumes. I use these easy to make scents everyday and love them :
- Fruity fragrance: sandalwood, orange and ylang-ylang.
- Good mood fragrance: cedar wood, bitter orange and grapefruit.
- Greedy and spicy fragrance: clove, vanilla and orange.
Do you want to try other scents? So it's quite simple.
As mentioned before, simply choose an essential oil in each of the 3 notes (top, middle and base notes).
And we must not forget to respect the dosages previous i.e. 24 drops for 15 ml of vodka.

I have never put classic perfume directly on the skin. Always on my clothes. And considering the chemicals they contain, I think I did well!

As with classic perfumes, I prefer not to put my perfumes with essential oils directly on the skin.
