How to treat canker sores? Here are 7 Effective Natural Remedies.

Who has never had canker sores?

These small superficial ulcers of the oral mucosa that are placed on our tongue, our gums, inside our lips and cheeks, and even in the throat, are rather unpleasant and "stinging".

Of course, a pharmacist will sell you products that will prove to be rather effective, as long as you are patient (because when a canker sore sets in, it stays for a while).

These products are obviously quite expensive.

Instead, here are 7 natural home remedies that will help you knock out those scheming little ones for just pennies.

  • 5. Aloe vera as an anti-inflammatory champion

1. Bicarbonate in mouthwash

As always, our best friend baking soda will overcome the ugly little ulcer. Use it as a mouthwash, the recipe can be found here.

It's impossible that you don't have this miracle product at home yet, since we've been recommending it to you for so many things. Only €5 per kilo, don't hesitate!

2. White vinegar simply on a cotton swab

We know a natural antiseptic that we also often tell you about:white vinegar. Just put a few drops on a cotton swab, as we advise you in this tip.

Be careful, it stings a bit.

White vinegar has more than one trick up its sleeve, so I encourage you to always have some on hand as well. In addition, its very low price will encourage you to do so:€0.50 max per litre.

3. Green clay mouthwash

If you prefer this solution or you have to follow a low sodium diet, know that green clay has the same virtues as baking soda. Also in mouthwash, as we told you in this article, it will be formidable against the enemy.

In pharmacies, you will find it for less than €4 for 250 g and you will use it for several homemade beauty and health recipes. You can also find green clay here.

4. Magnesium chloride as a disinfectant

Magnesium chloride is an excellent disinfectant. It will therefore be just as effective as white vinegar for example, perhaps having a better taste and a little less spiciness. Here is the recipe.

You will choose the solution that you find most comfortable. Know that if you buy magnesium chloride, it will serve you for many healthy uses, all for a few cents a bag.

5. Aloe vera as an anti-inflammatory champion

I had already told you all the good things I thought about this magical product, in this article. Since aloe vera is, among other things, anti-inflammatory and healing, it will be able to help you fight effectively against your canker sores.

In gel or juice, it is easily diluted. You can use it as a mouthwash, or why not as a gargle, if you have canker sores all the way down to your throat.

I recommend 2 to 3 mouthwashes or gargles per day. In case of multiple or really strong canker sores, you can pass the gel directly over it, applying once a day as well.

6. Licorice will be your gourmet remedy

In addition to a disinfectant of your choice between white vinegar and magnesium chloride, or used alone if your canker sore is not too big, you can treat yourself to liquorice if you like it.

Licorice in the form of a stick or lozenge will be naturally anti-inflammatory, too. And for this remedy, no dosage is imposed!

7. Basil as a last surprising remedy

I say. There, I surprise you. But you know I like it a lot. Basil is my last favorite ingredient to knock out the enemy. Basil is also a natural antiseptic.

It actually has the same virtues as cloves, for example, while having a better taste. You'll be less likely to want to spit it out after 30 seconds.

Chew a few fresh basil leaves several times a day. But if you prefer cloves, that's up to you, it will also be very effective... and that gives us an 8th bonus remedy!

Additional precautions to your natural treatment

In summary, for extensive and important canker sores, I advise you to start with mouthwashes, either with bicarbonate, or with green clay or aloe vera, supplementing if you wish immediately with basil or licorice.

If the symptoms persist after several days, add the white vinegar tip to your home treatment and disinfect regularly with magnesium chloride. It's radical!

In the case of small, isolated canker sores, one of the 7 tips should suffice, but you can combine two of them:a mouthwash and a chewable remedy.

Finally, an important precaution is to pay attention to what you eat when you are prone to canker sores. Certain foods should be avoided in case of frequent attacks:

- nuts,

- cheeses such as Gruyère and Comté,

- tomatoes,

- chocolate,

- bananas,

- pineapples.

Be careful with the skin of fruits in general, it is better to peel your apples and pears.
