This global Covid-19 pandemic will have seen the birth of various aberrations. The latest comes from Turkmenistan, a relatively unknown country in Central Asia. Its president spoke of research intended to prove that licorice root can neutralize the coronavirus.
Dentist by training, Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov has been President of the Republic of Turkmenistan since 2006. Rather controversial – in particular because of a real cult of personality towards him, the head of the state is fond of media releases that cause a lot of ink to flow in the media. The latest concerns the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, as explained by the Turkish daily Daily Sabah.
Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov recalled that all countries in the world are currently conducting research to identify remedies for the coronavirus. He claimed that one of these remedies could be made from licorice root , a medicinal plant. According to the interested party, this plant prevents the development of the coronavirus, even when it comes to a low concentration.
The president also recalled that his country has sufficient reserves in licorice. Above all, the latter commissioned the Turkmen Academy of Sciences to conduct research on this subject. Since March 2020, on the basis of official recommendations, the population had started to resort to harmal fumigations. It is a plant with a strong smell and supposed properties against the coronavirus. Licorice root could therefore take the same path, at the whim of the authorities.
Let us remember that the world health authorities have not modified their recommendations to protect against Covid 19. These include wearing a mask, social distancing and sanitary hygiene, mainly hand washing. A delegation from the World Health Organization (WHO) was forced to travel to Turkmenistan in July 2020 for these measures to be more or less imposed. Moreover, the Turkmen authorities have never declared even just one case of Covid-19.
The fact remains that in this country since the summer of 2020, non-food stores and restaurants have closed their doors. In addition, public transport traffic is slow. Officially, wearing a mask is compulsory. On the other hand, the reasons communicated to the population relate to pathogens and dust, without the citizens having further details.
In April 2020, the President of Madagascar Andry Rajoelina said that a laboratory in his country had developed a cure for the coronavirus. It was already a medicinal plant :artemisia (mugwort).
