After the vegan apple pie and the vegan sausage roll, it is now the turn of the classic HEMA smoked sausage and tompouce for a variant without animal additives.
The vegan smoked sausage and tompouce are unfortunately not yet available, but HEMA is working hard in the coming years to realize vegan variants of its most iconic products. In addition, “we also want to be the first to make sustainability affordable for everyone in the Netherlands,” CEO Tjeerd Jegen told Business Insider. HEMA previously completely switched to sustainable cotton and is also working on reducing plastic use. Sustainability is therefore one of the new pillars of the chain. Do you already have an eco bag from HEMA?
Whether the vegan smoked sausage will eventually receive this name remains to be seen. The European Parliament's Agriculture Committee wants a ban on the use of meat names for vegetarian products.
If you can't wait, Unox already offers a vegetarian smoked sausage and the Vegetarian Butcher has a smoked sausage without animal additives. By the way, did you know that there is also smoked sausage chips?
