The vaccine does not work for the flu that has been around for a while now. How is that possible?
Two types of flu
There are two types of flu:influenza A and influenza B. There are two types of influenza B, only one of which is contained in the vaccine. Coincidentally, the other variant now prevails.
Why was this flu variant not included in the vaccine? Every year the World Health Organization makes a prediction of the flu that will reign in the northern hemisphere next winter. This is often the variant that previously prevailed in the southern hemisphere. But it's still a bit of a gamble, this year the wrong choice was made.
Still benefit from the flu shot If you have gotten the flu shot, you will benefit a little. You are protected against other viruses that are less common. And even if it is not the same virus, the vaccine will partly protect you through crossings. The second flu wave will probably be a different variant of the flu, which is included in the vaccine.
