A bite from a mosquito can be quite itchy. What exactly is causing that?
You can only get a mosquito bite from the bite of a female mosquito. The itching is caused by the mosquito's saliva. This saliva contains an anticoagulant. That anticoagulant causes your body to produce histamine, a protein. Histamine creates a mild allergic reaction and so the area around the bump itches.
