More and more bacteria are resistant to antibiotics

More and more bacteria are resistant to antibiotics

Something must be done about this, otherwise diseases that are now easily curable can become dangerous again in the future.

Call Edith Schippers, Minister of Health, makes this appeal today in the context of European Antibiotic Awareness Day. 'If we don't pay attention, bacteria will beat us.' She addresses her appeal to healthcare institutions and general practitioners.

Did you know… The more often you use antibiotics, the greater the chance that bacteria will become resistant. Antibiotic resistance kills 25,000 every year in Europe.

Actions
Good hygiene should prevent infections. Furthermore, the prescription of antibiotics must be used sparingly and new species must be developed. In livestock farming, the use of antibiotics must also be reduced.

Risks
Transplants and routine surgeries can become dangerous or impossible when we become resistant to antibiotics and even a bladder infection could be fatal.
