Can you imagine that your fair skin will never be burned by the sun again? It could be the future. Scientists have discovered a molecule in the epidermis that plays an important role in sunburn.
It is a molecule called TRPV4, which is commonly found in our epidermis. By switching off the molecule, exposure to UV radiation no longer causes burns or pain. A drug has also been discovered that partially blocks TRPV4, so that the sun has little or no effect on the skin.
For the time being, the product will not yet be used in sunscreen. It must first be investigated which effects TRPV4 inhibitors can have on other processes in our skin.
