Couples living together are twice as likely to be obese as those living separately, according to research by Penny Gordon-Larsen professor at the University of North Carolina (UNC).
Couples who have lived together for more than two years develop the same fattening habits. The research also shows that the longer you live together, the higher the risk of obesity.
Fortunately, marriage also has positive effects on your health. Married people smoke less and live longer than unmarried people.
According to the researcher, the change in habits is the reason why married people gain weight. “Married people often eat together, prepare larger meals and eat out more often than singles. They also more often watch television together instead of sports. To solve the problem of obesity, it can help to encourage young couples to have a positive effect on each other and thus avoid the extra pounds of marriage," Gordon-Larsen said.
