Looking for an easy to make shaving foam recipe?
You've come to the right place!
I discovered this recipe along with the recipe for the coconut oil face wash, which I use daily.
I realized that after a good scrubbing of the skin, I could also shave my legs WITHOUT having to use shaving foam.
My complaint with most shaving foams is that when it comes to effectiveness, they really fall short.
Every time I shave my legs, it feels like I had an accident with barbed wire. Unless I buy shaving foams which are way too expensive...
Shortly after this discovery, my boyfriend, who often wears a 3-day beard, wanted to shave in the shower. And there, it was total panic, because he had no more shaving foam!
That's when I suggested he replace his shaving foam with the coconut oil cleanser, as a substitute for his shaving gel. He just had to take care to remove the excess scrub before using his razor.
He liked the result so much that he asked me to prepare a homemade shaving cream for him, but without exfoliation.
He was looking for a refreshing foam for soft skin and which soothes irritations and redness associated with shaving.
After some research and not very conclusive tests, I finally managed to find THE ideal recipe for making shaving foam.
Today, we both use this shaving foam. Ready to discover this simple DIY recipe? Here we go ! Watch:
For approximately 200 g of shaving foam
- 1/3 mustard glass of shea butter (about 70 g)
- 1/3 mustard glass of coconut oil (about 70 g)
- 1/4 mustard glass of jojoba oil or sweet almond oil (about 55 g)
- 10 drops of rosemary essential oil
- 3-5 drops of peppermint essential oil
1. Heat the shea butter and coconut oil in a small saucepan over low heat.
2. Stir in shea butter and coconut oil until melted and remove from heat.
3. Transfer the melted mixture to a heat-resistant bowl, like these Pyrex mixing bowls.
4. Add jojoba oil and essential oils. Mix everything well.
5. Store the bowl in the refrigerator until the mixture solidifies.
6. Once solidified, take the mixture out of the refrigerator and use a stand mixer to beat it, until you get a very fluffy consistency. and frothy .
7. Transfer your shaving foam to a glass jar (or any container of your choice with a lid).
8. Close the lid and store in a cool, dry place.
When you apply this shaving foam to your skin, you will notice that it tends to melt slightly. This is completely normal.
Apply a thin layer of the mixture to your skin and shave as usual.
To properly clean the blades between each pass of the razor, I dip and stir it in a small cup filled with hot water. If you want, you can also add a little Castile soap.
When I'm done shaving, I let my razor soak in the cup of hot water for a few seconds. Afterwards, I give the razor a good shake and store it on my suction cup razor holder.
To clean excess oil from the sides of the cup, I wipe it with a small square of toilet paper and throw it in the trash.
After a shave with this natural homemade foam, it is not necessary to clean your face. Indeed, the oils and butter that go into its composition all have naturally moisturizing properties.
To properly rinse your skin, follow the same instructions as those for the coconut oil cleanser. Use a washcloth soaked in warm water, using circular motions and applying light pressure.
If you prefer, you can also use a mild facial soap after your shave, or a homemade shower gel.
There you go, your homemade shaving foam is ready :-)
You see when I told you that it was not very complicated! Now you know how to make homemade shaving cream!
This oil-based shaving foam forms a protective layer that shields the skin from razor blades.
It reduces irritation and redness associated with shaving, even when razor blades are dull.
And unlike traditional shaving foam, this homemade foam does not contain soap.
The soap dries out the skin, while the moisturizing properties of the oils in this recipe are widely recognized. In addition, the oil coats the skin with a protective layer against razor blades.
If you've ever used coconut oil products to shave or moisturize your skin, this shaving foam feels very similar.
For us, this shaving foam is perfect for our sensitive skin.
However, take care to ALWAYS do a test first. Apply a small dose of shaving foam to a small area of your skin before applying it to your entire face.
Indeed, your skin may be sensitive to oils (whether essential oils or vegetable oils).
Therefore, it is better to test on a small area of your skin before applying it freely to your face or legs.
- You can use either refined or unrefined coconut oil (also known as virgin coconut oil).
- Unrefined coconut oil has a much stronger coconut scent. But the most important distinction to make is between coconut oil and fractionated coconut oil .
- Below 24°C, coconut oil has a solid consistency. Fractionated coconut oil, on the other hand, is still runny, which is not at all suitable for this recipe. Therefore, to make a nice, whippable lather, take care to use only solid coconut oil .
- As its name suggests, shea butter is made from the fruits of the shea tree, a tree that grows in Africa. The moisturizing properties of shea butter are also widely recognized.
