Worth a try.
Grocery shopping on an empty stomach is a bad idea, we know that by now. But did you know that what you eat before shopping also has an effect on what you put in your shopping cart?
Eat an apple
Research from Cornell University shows that people who eat an apple before shopping buy an average of 25 percent more fruit and vegetables than people who go shopping on an empty stomach. Another group received a cookie before visiting the supermarket. Compared to that group, the apple eaters even bought 28 percent more fruit and vegetables.
How is that possible?
According to one of the researchers, this effect arises because you are preoccupied with your health just before going shopping. You just made a healthy choice and that seems to make it easier for you to make even more healthy choices. In addition, this research shows once again that shopping when hungry leads to unhealthier choices.
