Organic, very logical? Apparently not for the Dutch. We seem to buy the least organic food of all countries in Europe.
From the European Health &Nutrition - research by TNS NIPO shows that the Dutch seldom go for organic products, despite 'sustainable food' is gaining popularity. Moreover, the research shows that the Dutch consider animal welfare an important motivation to eat organic. , but that this good intention often falls through.

Almost half of the Dutch indicate that they instinctively want to opt for organic food, but that it has not yet become a habit † We are not alone in this in Europe. Germans and Italians seem to have embraced organic food the most. They are the most frequent buyers of organic food † More than a quarter of them consume organic products every week. In the Netherlands we less often eat organic † Only a small part of the respondents indicate that they eat organic every week.
In other European countries, organic products are mainly eaten because they are healthier (seem to) be. Also, better taste and wellbeing for the environment cited as decisive reasons.
If the Dutch opt for organic products, they usually opt for vegetables (51 percent), eggs (48 percent) and meat (42 percent). The organic products that we ignore are organic sauces (4 percent) and delicacies (3 percent).

High price
For Europeans, is the higher price the biggest barrier for eating organic products. No less than 81 percent of the Dutch state that they will eat organic more often if the prices of organic food fall. In addition, greater supply and availability would also incite more people to buy organic products .
