Switching from long to short makes life a lot easier, and make significant savings.
I can attest to this:I just cut about 35 cm of hair. A desire that tormented me for years in fact!
My Hairdresser Budget
We tend to think that by going to the hairdresser more often to maintain a short haircut, we will spend more. After a quick calculation, I realize that by spacing out my colors a little more, I'm even a winner!
Before, the monthly average of my hairdresser budget was €32.50 (cut, color, treatment, brushing every two months). It's awful how quickly you could see my roots on my straightened hair, so I couldn't wait more than 2 months for the color.
Today, my hairdresser budget comes to me at 26 € per month (cut every month and a half, color every 3 months). And between us, I will try to stop the colors. I realize that I support my white hair better on a short “firecracker” haircut.
An annual hairdresser saving of €78 .
My Hair Maintenance Budget
Even the hair maintenance budget becomes considerably lighter:
. The shampoo
Before, I used to do two shampoos every other day to wash my long hair. I still wash my hair every other day, but I use three times less. The savings in shampoo made (on the brand I use) is therefore €55 per year approx.
. Nourishing care
My hair was so dry that I had to do a treatment after each shampoo, to distribute over the entire length. I will continue this nourishing treatment, but using 3 times less product. I use the L'Oréal oil mask, Nature series, which I buy at my hairdresser. By reducing its consumption, I save €39 approximately every year.
. Water
I definitely need a lot less water to wet and rinse my hair. It is difficult to quantify in euros but it will necessarily impact my bill.
. Smoothing
I had invested in a straightening device (the Streampod) which had cost me 200 €. I had to use two products, one before straightening, and one after. At €17 per product, I save €68 a year (for 4 products). And by reselling my second-hand device, I can hope to earn at least 100 € .
Total amount saved is therefore €240 per year. And I do not count the water saved plus the resale of my straightening device. Not bad right?
Washing my hair had become a chore. My shower lasted 10 minutes longer. Add drying, styling and smoothing, which took me about 15 min.
Not to mention the time wasted picking up all my hair on the floor because straightening accelerated my hair loss. Really, it's precious time saved every day.
I will also no longer lose almost 3 hours every two months at the hairdresser (cut + color). Cutting and applying color is very fast on short hair.
It is obvious that to give up long hair, you have to have a real desire with a short haircut. Be sure that our new image will please us in the mirror every day. To feel that we will feel feminine and pretty by wearing our short hair, and to know that we will be able to assume it.
Personally, all this time and all these products saved weighed in the balance. In addition, I do a lot of sports, and I had to schedule my sessions according to my shampoo days so as not to have to wash my hair daily. It was heavy.
I also found that my hair didn't look good on everything I did for it. Long hair is pretty when the hair is beautiful. Otherwise, I don't think it's much use.
