Most people are aware that the dishcloth is the most unhygienic kitchen item, but do we do something with that knowledge?
Source of bacteria
Last year the Ministry of Health launched a campaign about the dangers of mold and bacteria in the kitchen. It can even make you sick. The dishcloth is the largest source of this in most kitchens. Just think what you clean with your dishcloth:the countertops, the stove, the dining tables and chairs and maybe even the fridge and the oven.
A clean dishcloth every day
You should therefore wash your dishcloth every day. Don't you? Then you belong to the 60 percent of Dutch people who do not replace the dishcloth daily. One fifth only replace the dishcloth once a week.
Hot wax It is best to wash your dishcloths as hot as possible, the Ministry of Health recommends washing at 90 degrees. Despite the fact that many people are aware of this, half of the people only wash dishcloths at 60 degrees, 18 percent set the washing machine at 40 degrees and 4 percent at 30 degrees.
