The Consumers' Association today handed over signatures to Ab Klink to prevent pharmaceuticals advertising.
Advertising for medicines is prohibited in the Netherlands That is why many pharmaceutical companies use so-called symptom advertising. They inform consumers about all kinds of ailments through advertisements, which increases the need for medicines against them.
The Consumers' Association believes that this form of advertising should also be banned, and is therefore handing over 15,000 signatures to Minister Ab Klink of Health today. †
The reason for the action was a broadcast of Radar † The broadcast showed how pharmaceutical companies, through symptom advertising , calling on consumers to go to the doctor with often harmless ailments, such as a fungal nail.
The Consumers' Association believes that the money and time that these minor complaints cost could be better spent on people with serious complaints.
