Eating your daily portion of fruit is even more important for your health than scientists first thought. This is apparent from recent research by Professor Dr Paul Kroon.
The researchers analyzed the properties of apples, peaches and nectarines. For example, they discovered that these fruits contain five times as many polyphenols than had been previously established. Bacteria in the gut convert these polyphenols into substances that are important for health, for example they stimulate the activity of antioxidants.
The research proves that this substance is very important to keep people healthy, polyphenols prevent inflammation and malignant tumors. In addition, they protect cells against damage from free radicals and prevent cardiovascular disease.
The research also shows that these substances significantly lower the risk of Alzheimer's.
