Contribute to a second opinion

Do you think people should pay for a second opinion themselves?

The Order of Medical Specialists (OMS) believes that the threshold for a second opinion should be raised. Research by the NCRV program Always What and the magazine Arts En Auto shows that two out of three doctors and other care providers want patients to pay for a second opinion themselves.

Cut down
The second opinion is a measure that doctors say rarely if ever leads to a different insight, says the chairman of the OMS. Paying for a second opinion yourself would be a good measure to save on healthcare costs.

Opponents
Opponents believe that the second opinion should remain in the basic package, so that everyone can use it. Often people want a second opinion because the communication between the first doctor and the patient is not optimal.
